A PCC Story
When we hear the phone ring or hear the creak of our center door opening, we never know who God is about to bring us in contact with. It could be a faithful donor just popping in to say hi and to drop off the diapers they picked up while at the store. It could be an automated phone call or a wrong number.
Then, there are times that God catches us off guard while we are going about the mundane tasks of emails and paperwork. It is a young lady with a quiet and shaky voice we hear through the phone pressed against our ear. She is hesitant to even ask about making an appointment to come to take a pregnancy test and get an ultrasound. What should she expect? No one yet knows the situation she has found herself in. She isn’t even sure if she is ready to talk about it. Will she be judged? What will happen to her? Is her whole life ruined? Does she still have any chance of having a happy and successful life? Will her family, boyfriend, or friends still love her, no matter what she did or what was done to her?
With her head spinning over these questions and concerns, she comes to us, silently begging for help. At first, she may feel overwhelmed. She is handed a clipboard of forms asking questions she didn’t expect to be asked. But then, we welcome her. We are here for her. She is given a safe environment to talk, to express her emotions, to be honest with one of us. She may sit there in silence, paralyzed by fear, anger, or shame. Or, she may find the courage to talk and even more than that, be ready to listen to a voice who cares. These are the moments we pray for. We pray in those moments that God will use us to speak His truth. We may only see a willingness to hear a small word of truth, but sometimes God shows us a heart that is ready to hear His message of love, of grace, and of FORGIVENESS.
This young lady who drugs her feet the whole way to our center gets to see a glimpse of Christ’s love and peace which surpasses all understanding. Our hope is that by this point, she is ready to see her baby and make the best decision for her and her child. We know that God’s best is always the choice of life. John 10:10 tells us that the enemy wants to steal, kill, and destroy. He wants to steal this girl’s joy and hope for the future. He wants to kill this unborn baby. He wants to destroy both the mother’s and baby’s lives. Thankfully, the rest of the verse tells us what Jesus said His reason is for coming. He came that they may have life and have it more abundantly.
We may never know if she chooses to believe this life-giving truth. As a matter of fact, we may never know if she chooses to spare her child’s life. But, this is why The Pregnancy Care Center exists. We exist first and foremost to share God’s love and truth with expecting mothers. We do this through our gospel conversations, through our free pregnancy tests and ultrasounds, and we do this by giving each mother the opportunity to learn practical lessons about becoming a parent while also providing free baby items.
Our prayer is that we would be able to continue to do this work and provide all services for free for as long as such a need exists. We know that God is able to provide through whatever means He chooses and we have seen that He often chooses to use people like you who have a heart for women in need. Please consider making a donation to support the Pregnancy Care Center of Brigham City this #givingtuesday.
